In case your current battle to lose weight has become a real struggle for you and it looks like your workout routine and/or diet are not providing the expected results, then you should probably focus on leptin in order to notice the difference.

Leptin is the name of a hormone that is secreted by our cells and the main goal of leptin is to manage your energy levels and weight.

Leptin Hormone Not Allows You Lose Weight

This function is performed in two ways.

The first way is by sending a signal to the brain when it is the right time to stop eating and the second is to encourage fatty tissue to burn the energy.

As you increase your weight, your body secretes higher amounts of leptin in the blood stream because it is trying to make balance by supporting fatty tissues efforts to remove excess fat.

But, in some cases leptin fails to complete its task.

To be more precise, the systems of a big number of overweight people have developed some kind of leptin resistance.

What is Leptin Resistance and How It Happens

When the levels of leptin are high for a long period of time, some people become less sensitive to leptin. In other words, the brain doesn’t respond to leptin’s signals that we should stop eating or to speed up metabolism.

This situation disrupts our weight loss efforts and our efforts to maintain normal metabolism rate. The resistance to leptin increases the chances of developing chronic illnesses by supporting excess stomach fat and inflammation.

Another reason why you may have to deal with leptin resistance is practicing a crash diet. There are many people who are making the same mistake by radically reducing the amount of calorie intake in order to lose weight quickly. This practice often leads to problems in the way leptin works.

We are not saying that crash diets are wrong, but it is probably a better idea to try some other diets first because many crash diets are not very healthy and they don’t provide the wanted results.

In addition, you may also have to deal with leptin resistance in case you consume processed foods that you can see in this list on a regular basis:

  • Foods rich in sugar
  • Foods high in fat
  • Foods packed with carbs
  • High fructose corn syrup.
