Kidneys are located under the rib cage, and their work is to clean and detox, or in other words, filter 10-150 quarts blood every day, which is crucial for keeping your blood healthy as well as for the function of all other organs in our body.

They are responsible for the elimination of waste material or excessive fluids from the body. Kidneys regulate the electrolytes levels, produce more red blood cells, keep bones strong and healthy, and stabilize the blood pressure.

Our health is in trouble if our kidneys don’t function normally. In continuation, we explain how to recognize and prevent issues connected to kidney damage or NKF:

1. Swellings

Once kidneys begin to fail in doing their “job”, the elimination of excess fluids from the body will gradually slow down, leading to swollen and bloated joints, limbs, and face.

2. Urination Changes

These are the earliest and most obvious signs:

  • Problems urinating,
  • Pressure during urinating,
  • Less frequent urinating in smaller quantities (dark urine),
  • Frequent urinating in large quantities (pale color of urine),
  • Urinating during the night.

3. Skin Rash

Kidney failure can be related to waste build-up in the body and thus in blood, resulting in dry, irritated and unhealthy skin that causes skin rashes and itchy skin. Although creams and lotions can somewhat ease these skin conditions, they can’t solve the problem that happens within the body, of course if the skin rash appears as a result of kidney problems.

4. Shortness of Breath

Although shortness of breath is a common problem, it is possible to be related to kidney damage. When the body lacks oxygen, it’s a result of reduced number of red blood cells, whose number is related to the dangerous build-up of toxins in the lungs.

5. Fatigue

Healthy kidneys produce the hormone erythropoietin (EPO) which makes more red blood cells that distribute oxygen where it’s required. Fatigue appears as a result of decreased production of red blood cells, in which case the muscles and brain could be as well affected. This is also one of the signs of severe anemia.

6. Metallic Taste/Taste of Metal in the Mouth

Your taste of foods can be significantly changed by the waste accumulated in the blood, which can as well cause constant bad breath. Another sign that your kidneys might be damaged is poor appetite and significant change in the taste of some foods.

7. Pain

Another sign of kidney damage is appearance of acne in the upper back. Infections and kidney stones can aggravate the pain even more.

8. Dizziness and Bad Concentration

One of the clear anemia symptoms is bad oxygen blow to the brain, but this can also be a sign of kidney failure. This will cause bad concentration and focus, lightheadedness, dizziness, and even memory problems.

We recommend including healthier and more antioxidant foods in your diet, or antioxidant supplements, to ensure your kidneys work properly.
