According to the latest reports, one person has lost their life and 11 more have been hospitalized in what appears to be an outbreak of Listeria associated with Dole salads.

CDC representatives have reported today that their teams are closely monitoring and analyzing the situation in six states where such cases were reported in the last six months. But, the question is – why did they keep this information secret till now? In case we were talking about Chipotle, CDC would’ve made this breaking news in a matter of minutes.

People are advised to avoid salads, but we are still puzzled why these salads were still available on the market after the first case of Listeria. They might have given such advice, but the public is not aware of it.

The CDC has confirmed that one person lost their life and 12 more were kept in hospitals in six states due to symptoms of Listeria. It turns out that the Dole salads packaged in Springfield, Ohio led to Listeria outbursts in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Indiana, and Michigan. One of the affected persons was a young woman who is expecting a baby and a 3-year-old girl.

The public announcement from CDC was shared after the Canadian Public Health Agency reported that 7 individuals were hospitalized due to listeria. Experts are convinced that there is a connection between these two cases, but we will have to wait for the laboratory results for confirmation.

Because of these outbreaks, Dole Food Co. has agreed to remove their salads from more than 20 states in the USA and three provinces in Canada. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has also published recommendations on its official website – people are advised to avoid Dole salads and grocery stores are urged to remove these salads from their offers.

On top of that, Dole has announced that they have temporarily stopped the production of these salads in Springfield.

People should know that listeria can lead to serious illness. Muscle aches, fever, intense headache, nausea, and neck stiffness are the most common symptoms and signs of listeriosis. In addition, some people may experience diarrhea and certain digestive problems.
