The vast majority of people is aware of the fact that breakfast is very important meal especially if you are looking for long-term weight loss effects. That’s why, whenever you believe that you are hungry for no apparent reason, you must think about the way your breakfast will look tomorrow.

A recent scientific study published in the popular Annals of Nutrition and metabolism magazine, has shown that the most suitable breakfast for every category of people is oatmeal.

Oatmeal for Breakfast – The Study

More than 30 men and women have participated in this study. They have taken about 350 calories, but they were separated into three groups that have taken different types of food. The first group of people was eating oatmeal in the morning, the second group had cornflakes for breakfast while the last group of people has skipped breakfast (they have consumed only water).

After three hours, the participants had to test their satiety state and scientists have taken blood samples to check their blood sugar levels and insulin levels. All participants had the same type of food for lunch and dinner.

The scientists have shown that the people who had oatmeal for breakfast felt sated for the longest period of time and they have taken about 30% less calories during lunch time. Additionally, the effects were even better in people who were overweight because they have consumed half less calories for lunch.

On the other hand, people who had cornflakes for breakfast started experiencing food craving after three hours since they have finished their breakfast. The participants who consumed only water felt even hungrier. So, what exactly caused this hunger even though the first and second group had solid meals for breakfast?

The reason is simple – oatmeal is processed for a longer period of time. Cornflakes are reaching the blood stream faster and boost the level of glucose. This leads to a sudden drop of blood sugar levels.

It is good to point out that there are many other studies that have confirmed this. It turns out that oatmeal is a very useful food and it can be very helpful if you want to lose weight in the long run.
