You probably know that the fruits we buy from grocery stores have stickers on them, but have you paid closer attention to these stickers and do you know their meaning?

These stickers usually contain numeric marks and if there is a numeric code with 4 numbers and the number starts with 3 or 4, this means that the fruit was grown in a factory farm.

In other words, it is very likely that artificial fertilizers were used in the process of production.

On the other hand, there are fruits marked with 5 numbers.

If the first number is 9, this means that the fruit was cultivated by using traditional methods before the Industrial Era.

We call these methods organic and no pesticides or fertilizers can be found in these products.

Finally, if the fruit has five digit code and the first number is 8, this means that the fruit is genetically modified – GMO product. You can find this code most commonly on bananas, papayas, and melons.

Once you read this you will certainly be more careful when buying fruits.
