We are constantly hearing that not being active enough, and not making the most of every moment is the worst thing we can do to ourselves. Being lazy is not a good characteristic, right?

Perhaps, not. Although there are many times you have to get moving to get your things done, it seems that living life in the slow lane is not such a bad thing after all.

While the majority of adults avoid napping daily, it seems that napping during the day is great for their health and overall well-being. Similar like napping, people think of taking things slow and lounging around as character flaws, though they actually aren’t. It has been found that these are great ways to boost invention, creativity, and motivation.

We’re not implying that people should spend their life on the couch, but it’s totally fine to rest and chill out for several minutes when feeling tired. After the short rest, you will feel refreshed and ready to continue with your daily activities.

Here are several reasons why laziness is good for everyone!

Laziness Is Natural

The human’s body is always looking for a way to conserve energy, so being lazy is a natural characteristic. People are in fact evolved for lounging.

During winter, our body has higher production of melatonin, which is why we feel more sleepy than during summer, when the heat don’t let us be too active. Otherwise we can get a heat stroke. However, laziness provides certain mental and physical benefits, so read them to see why you should be lazy more often.

Benefits of Laziness

1. Reduces Blood Pressure

Everyday activities can upset and stress us out. So, too much of this can adversely affect our heart rate levels and blood pressure, making us feeling anxious and jittery. If you just take some moment to take a deep breath, stretch out, and calm your mind, you can reduce the blood pressure and restore your inner peace.

2. Improves Workouts

We know that being lazy is not usually linked to exercise, but these people always choose the shorter and higher intensity workout. This type of workout has been proven to get the blood pumping, leaving enough time to binge-watch your favorite TV program. According to studies, these short and intense workouts with resting periods are actually better for staying fit and losing weight.

3. Boosts Creativity

A lot of people get their best ideas when lying down and not thinking of something in particular. Usually, when we try hard to come up with an idea we end up being disappointed. But, if we just let go and relax our mind, we will let out thoughts combine on their own and create new and exciting ideas.

4. Improves Efficiency

The popular author Agatha Christie believed that invention arises from idleness, as oppose to the popular saying “Necessity is the mother of invention”. In other words, a lot of inventions that made our life less strenuous and easier have actually resulted from laziness. When one is lazy, it makes him/her find a quicker and easier solution to the given task.

5. Improves Problem-Solving Skills

You might be able to come up with a solution for some problem that’s been bothering you if you just give yourself enough time to think it through. Other times, letting an issue sit might make it work on its own. However, this is not always the case. So the best thing is to take some time to realize if your current problem requires your intervention, or you should just let it go.

6. Allows For Reflection

You can get creative, and philosophical as well if you just give your mind some time to wander. In those moments, you may start thinking of some complex problems, and you might even come up with solutions or new ways to handle them. Lounging and getting philosophical at the same time can help you see things in a different perspective, and maybe get a better understanding of your thoughts and beliefs.

7. Appreciation for The Present

Laziness brings your attention to the present moment just like meditation does, making you appreciate it for what it is. That might be the soft tickling of your clock, the smell of your flowers, or the warmth of your cup of tea. If you pay attention to the present moment, you will feel relaxed and recharged for the rest of the day.
