Many health epidemics concern people nowadays, and one of them is linked with diet soda which made consumers buy another healthier alternative.

The main source of sweetness in diet soda is the sweetener called aspartame. This is considered to be a very harmful ingredient added to the food and can cause many health conditions.

A study conveyed over a period of ten years on 60,000 women, showed that one who consumes two or more diet beverages within a day can very easily develop cardiovascular disease and can die because of this harmful drink.

The University of Iowa made a large study on this subject and realized that women taking two or more diet drinks when compared with the ones that almost never take these beverages are even 30 percent more at risk to have some cardiovascular conditions like stroke or heart attack and 50 percent more to die from the same or related issues.

Dr. Ankur Vyas says that it is a large study regarding diet soda, and the research was combined with some of the previous data already discovered. They also found many data on the connection between diet soda and metabolic syndrome.

The same results continued, even after researchers adapted the data for some of the cardiovascular risk factors or for demographic characteristics. These are smoking, body mass index, physical activity, hormone imbalance or therapy, salt intake, hypertension, energy intake, diabetes, the intake of sugarsweetened drinks, and high cholesterol.

In most cases, women who drank two or more diet sodas on daily basis were at a younger age, probably smokers, and have a high predominance of diabetes, high body mass index, and high blood pressure.

Thanks to this study, the sales of soda are slipping down and aspartame will never harm people who are aware of its harmful effect.

As Time Magazine revealed, the reason for the change was the increased awareness of the high number of obese people in the US and many cases of sugarsweetened drinks causing health problems. Industry experts claim that the beverage industry is hiding from this very well-examined study. Dietbranded beverages did not go well too since they were linked to using artificial sweeteners as well.

No matter the reason for the change, this study should raise awareness among people and push them far away from artificial sweeteners. We can use many natural sweeteners which are healthier and more beneficial than aspartame. Find some in your local store.

The fact that the sales of soda are decreasing, and means that many people are becoming aware of the consequences of drinking it so there are fewer people exposed to fructose corn syrup, which is also harmful to our health.
