Isabel used to suffer from an autoimmune disease known as MCTD, or mixed connective tissue disease. When she first visited Dr. Mark Hyman, her diagnose included systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Her condition was considered incurable, and was followed by debilitating side effects.

The disease affected every part of Isabel’s body – her white and red blood cells, blood vessels, skin, muscles, and liver. She had a swollen face, swollen joints, and constantly inflamed skin.

She was taking aspirin, steroids, and acid blockers when she visited Dr. Hyman, and as he explains, the girl was practically miserable and chronically tired.

Clearly, the medications she was taking weren’t helpful. Her former doctors advised her to take a chemo drug on a daily basis to suppress her immune system’s activity. Although the drug can help relieve the symptoms, it can also increase the chances of cancer and death from infection. That’s why she didn’t take the drug, and went to Dr. Hyman.

After less than a year, Isabel’s blood tests were normal and she was free from the awful symptoms. She stopped taking any medication.

A Natural Healing Approach

Dr. Hyman focused on finding the root causes of Isabel’s condition, as oppose to her former doctors who just tried to cover her symptoms with medications. What he discovered was that few simple changes in her diet can better control the inflammation in her body.

Dr. Hyman advised Isabel to avoid sugar, dairy, and gluten, and to take several supplements to help the healing process of her body. These included vitamin B12, vitamin D, folate, multivitamin, and fish oil. Furthermore, he advised her to take an anti-inflammatory evening primrose oil, a probiotic, an anti-fungal, and a mercury chelating agent.

Soon, the girl was healthy once again. Together with her doctor, she decided to share this story to raise the awareness of the power of the natural healing approach. You can see it in the video below, where she says how great she feels after being off those medications.

Autoimmune Diseases

According to statistics, around 50 million Americans are affected by autoimmune diseases. They include Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, type 1 diabetes, and fibromyalgia. The biggest symptom they all share is inflammation.

Most doctors prescribe pain medications, immunosuppressant drugs and anti-inflammatory drugs for autoimmune disease patients, and all they do is block, cover, suppress, or interfere in some way with the body’s biology.

Dr. Hyman explains that the main focus should be put on the underlying causes of the diseases. He succeeded to reduce Isabel’s inflammation by removing sugar, dairy, and gluten from her diet, while the supplements and extra vitamins boosted her immunity to speed up the healing process.
