Food Safety and Inspection Service which is part of the Department of Agriculture have recently announced that it has pulled off more than 1100 pounds of chicken meat from the market. This chicken was available at Wegmans Food Market.

The company that sold the chicken had to recall their chicken products because they were offered without official federal inspection.

The following is a list of chicken products that were recalled a few days ago:

  • One pound, vacuum sealed packages that contained Italian Flavored Chicken Breast Cutlet by Wegmans with an expiry date on 24th January 2016;
  • One pound, vacuum sealed packages that contained Brown Sugar Barbecue Seasoned Chicken Breast Cutlet by Wegmans with an expiry date on 15th January 2016;
  • Three pounds, vacuum-sealed packages that contained Garlic and Fennel Whole Chicken Roaster by Wegmans with an expiry date on 13th January 2016;
  • One pound, vacuum sealed packages that contained Sherry Chicken 27482 by Wegmans Wokery with an expiry date on 13th January 2016.

All these chicken products that were produced 3 days after New Year’s Day were marked with EST. or P-7567 establishment number as part of the USDA mark of inspection. The locations where these products were available were Maryland, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts (Wegmans retail stores).

FSIS claims that the producers have altered the production schedules and these chicken products were not made within the approved hours of work. This problem was noticed when the FSIS inspection staff reviewed the records of the establishment.

The good news is that there are no complaints from the consumers that have actually used these products. Those who have bought and have still not used the products are encouraged to return them to the place where they bought them and they will get a refund.

The FSIS has become even more cautious because of the things that happened in 2015 when a lot of people experienced problems from the food they bought from Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants and foods like a chicken salad from Costco and Blue Bell ice cream.

Hundreds of people were affected by these foods.
