Bathrooms should be the cleanest part of anyone’s home. Kitchens should be too, but as we always cook and eat there, they are understandably messy most of the time.
With the following tip, your bathroom will be clean all the time, with a little help from the others.
You should ask everyone in your home to wash the sink after they have brushed their teeth, pick up their towels, and even help in the cleaning process of the bathroom. Great and lifelong advice for your kids would be to teach them how to involve in household activities.
What’s Inside Bathroom Cleaning Products?
Bathroom cleaning products are loaded with harmful chemicals, the worst of them being bleach, particularly for small kids.
The chlorine consisting of bleach releases toxic gases as it reacts with acids. Bleach is a corrosive and irritant which is harmful to the skin as well as any other organic material that comes across it.
Moreover, bathroom cleaning products include 10 to 50 % of hydrochloric acid, the stomach acid, which is related to irritation of the respiratory system and kidney damage when inhaled.
Some of these bathroom cleaning products may even include fragrances that cause headaches, allergic reactions, and irritate lungs, as well as hormone disruptors.
Natural Products for Cleaning Bathrooms
These are the ingredients required for the preparation of the ultimate toilet bowl cleaner:
- Water;
- ½ cup baking soda;
- ½ cup corn starch;
- ½ citric acid;
- 25 drops of your favorite essential oil (orange essential oil possesses excellent cleaning properties, and for increased scent add other oils)
Besides the ingredients, you will need a giant Ziploc bag, molds or muffin tins, a gallon-size zip-top bag, and a spray bottle.
Directions:
Mix all of the listed ingredients in the bag, without adding the essential oils, and then strongly shake the mixture. Open the bag and add two to three spritzers of water. After that seal the bag and knead.
Do this procedure 5 to 7 times, but if you notice your bag puffs excessively, don’t panic and just release the air. This might happen as a result of the acid and baking soda reaction.
Remember that the resulting mixture should look like pie dough, so when you squeeze a handful it should remain together. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t add too much water.
After this, add the essential oil, and knead the content once again. You can now start to firmly pack the given mixture in molds, and for that, you will need another muffin tin for stronger pressure.
Allow the mixture to dry in the molds for a few days. After that, take them out and allow them to dry for two more days. Store your bathroom cleaning “bombs” in a sealed container, so that you can use them another time.
Once you have your cleaning bombs prepared, just drop one in your bathroom and watch how it fizzes. Then, take a scrubby brush to clean any odd things, and then just flush. These toilet cleaning bombs are excellent for you and the environment as well.
